The 29-year-old Scot, who also reached the 2004 final, was quoted as a 125-1 shot prior to the Sheffield event and was also a clear second favourite going into the final against Peter Ebdon.

The match was not a classic and Dott admitted it was "boring", but he achieved his goal.

Dott goes into this year's event in Sheffield as the provisional world number one and with the China Open title under his belt.
