Moscow Flyer follows Isio over the second last in the Melling Chase

The 10-year-old unseated jockey Barry Geraghty at the Festival a fortnight ago but jumped fluently at Aintree to record a six-length victory.

Long-time leader Isio was second with Native Upmanship, winner of the race for the past two years, a long way back in third.

Isio set the pace and coming to the home turn, his jockey Mick Fitzgerald upped the tempo further with only Moscow Flyer able to keep up.

And Geraghty had few problems as the 10-year-old pulled away after the last fence to take his chasing record to 14 wins from 18 starts.

It was the first time Moscow Flyer, trained by Jessica Harrington in Ireland, had run two-and-a-half miles over fences but he proved he could stay the trip.

"That's as good a performance as he's given in any of his races," owner Brian Kearney told BBC Sport.

"He's the first horse I've ever owned and the dream just goes on and on."

Winning jockey Geraghty was pleased to have erased the memory of the Champion Chase misfortune.

"The horse was far more relaxed today than at Cheltenham. He settled and he wasn't in as big a rush over the early fences," said the Irishman.

"I got him switched off. He got into a rhythm and he jumped brilliantly the whole way."
