Conrad Humphreys has carved out an impressive career since making his pro debut as a 20-year-old in the 1993-94 Whitbread round-the-world race. The former junior world champion then won the 2000 BT Global Challenge as skipper of LG Flatron at the age of 26.
This led to a slot as navigator on Mike Golding's Ecover for the EDS Atlantic Challenge in 2001.
Humphreys turned his attention to solo sailing but was dismasted on his debut in the Route du Rhum in 2002.
In 2003, he won the 50ft class in the Transat Jacques Vabre with co-skipper Paul Larsen.
And earlier this year, he took part in his first single-handed race in an Open 60 class yacht in The Transat from Plymouth to Boston, qualifying him for a first Vendee Globe.
