Garrard has 259 international caps |
Brett Garrard has been left out of the Great Britain hockey squad for March's Olympic qualifying tournament in Chile. Head coach Jason Lee chose not to pick the 31-year-old in his 20-man squad for the six-team event, from which just one country will qualify for Beijing.
Lee said: "Other players competing for a role in defence have been considered to have performed to a higher level.
"The forward and midfield line are more prone to injury, so the reserves have been selected to reflect that."

As only 18 players can be named to participate in the qualifiers, Lee has 17 definites with either Matt Daly or Stephen Dick to be selected as the 18th.
The tournament, between 1 and 9 March, also features Austria, India, Bangladesh, Mexico and hosts Chile and represents Britain's last chance to qualify for the Olympic Games.
