Tyrone lose McKenna final

Tyrone 0-12 Monaghan 1-11

Monaghan won the Dr McKenna Cup final on Sunday with a two-point victory over Tyrone.

Thomas Freeman was the scorer of Monaghan's all-important goal against a Tyrone team which was without several key players.

Freeman struck when the sides were locked at eight points each after his brother Damien had done the groundwork.

Peter Canavan came on as a substitute for Tyrone and scored a point.

But, with Monaghan one ahead entering injury-time Thomas Freeman pointed again to give the Farney County their first triumph in the competition since 1995.

On the club scene, it has been confirmed that Tyrone Under-21 boss Peter Doherty is to take over from Mickey Harte as the new Errigal Ciaran manager.
