Spectators take cover from the rain at the Dundrod circuit |
The organising Dundrod club have stated their intention to run the Ulster Grand Prix Bike Week from Monday 10 August to Saturday 15 August next year. This year's event did not take place after heavy rainfall made conditions on the course impossible for racing. The club has applied for financial help from the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure to help alleviate the heavy losses incurred by the abandonment. Lisburn Council and the UGP Supporters' Club have again pledged their support. The club say messages of support and donations have also been received from throughout Ireland, the British Isles and beyond. "Although we have an extremely heavy financial burden to carry, the club are currently meeting with various people from both the public and private sector, not only to alleviate the problems we are faced with from this year's event, but also to secure the long term future of the world's fastest road race," said a statement issued by the club.
