Ulster Grand Prix organisers have written to the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure to seek compensation for Saturday's washed out race meeting.

The event had to be abandoned without any racing taking place because of heavy rainfall and mist on the circuit. The weather left the Dundrod club with heavy financial losses.

"Financially it was a disaster for us - whether we (Dundrod Club) can bounce from this remains to be seen," said Clerk of the Course Noel Johnston.

Two of the six UGP races scheduled to take place in 2007 were cancelled after heavy rainfall.
