Brotherton's Tour moment: Stage 20
Erik Zabel
Zabel (left) triumphed over O'Grady (right, green)
Throughout the Tour de France, Simon Brotherton has provided daily race reports for BBC Five Live and stage highlights for Sport Online.

My final 'moment' of the Tour was...the final moment.

The fight for the green jersey went down to the wire.

And it was only in the sprint for the line on the Champs Elysees that we knew its final destination.

Heartbreakingly for Stuart O'Grady, he was pipped at the post having led for most of the race.

Once again, Erik Zabel had the edge and increases his record number of green jerseys to six.

Zabel won the two intermediate sprints along the route, so led by four points as they headed for the stage finish.

O'Grady knew he had to win the stage in order to guarantee keeping the jersey.

Otherwise, it was down to his placing relative to Zabel's.

In the end, Jans Svorada won, Zabel was second, with O'Grady third.

Just another couple of metres and the Australian would have held on.

But it wasn't to be.

Zabel took the prize by eight points, he is the better sprinter. But your heart went out to O'Grady, who came so close.
