Millar's punctured dream
In the second of his BBC Sport Online Tour de France diaries, David Millar talks about his disappointment down the finishing straight.

As you can imagine Saturday didn't pan out quite as I'd hoped.

Everything was going well except the weather which was threatening to pour down at any moment.

Shari and family and friends had arrived the day before so the Millars were out in force.

The guys had done some painting on the course the night before which was cool.

Millar: Gutted after late fall

I was feeling good before the start and had managed to get some sleep in the afternoon.

I knew what was expected but I was focused on what I wanted to do.

The TT was going well and I was concentrating on holding something back for the finishing straight but as I came round the final bend, the back wheel slid and I came off.

My whole left side was trashed with road burns and my calf took a serious knock on the way down.

I got back on the bike and started riding but realised my back tyre was punctured. I had to swap bikes and then carry on to the finish.

All I can say really is that I'm really disappointed. I was riding well but it didn't work out - but a three week race and this is only the beginning.

I'm just going to hang back for the next couple of stages and take it easy to give my leg time to recover.
