Clarke crashes out
Darren Clarke looks worried during his dire second round
Northern Ireland's Darren Clarke shot a 79 in the second round of the Masters to miss the cut at Augusta by a stroke.

Clarke started the day at two under par after a first-round 70 but dropped four shots on the front nine and three coming home to finish five over par.

The Republic of Ireland's Padraig Harrington made the cut on the mark at four over par after carding a second consecutive 74.

Only 44 players made the cut, which is the absolute minimum number possible.

Clarke started his round with four pars in a row but bogeyed the fifth before a double bogey at the sixth saw him slip to one over par for the tournament.

A further shot went at the ninth before his second double bogey of the round, at the 10th, saw him slide to four over par.

Yet another bogey at the 11th meant four shots had gone in three holes and although he managed to pull one back with a birdie at the 13th, a further bogey at the 16th meant Clarke was on his way home.

"Pathetic is a polite way of putting how I played," he said. "Typical of me at the moment. One good round, one bad round.

"It's such a fine line and I got the wrong side of it. I just hit some poor shots and a lot of wrong clubs.

"I played poorly and got exactly what I deserved."

Harrington's round was perfectly symmetrical as he went out and then came home in 37 for the second day in a row.

A dropped shot at the first saw him slip to three over and although he dropped another shot at the 4th, a birdie at the next hole got him back to three over.

He picked up another birdie at the 11th to go back to two over before bogeys at the 12th and 16th saw him in the clubhouse with a 74 to lie four over for the tournament.
