Els, Mickelson finish in the pack | | Ernie Els and Phil Mickelson, ranked third and fourth in the world, ended their US Open campaigns well down the field after trying weeks at Pinehurst. Els, a two-time winner of the event, saved some face with a fourth-round 70, his best return of the tournament. That was good enough to leave the 35-year-old South African on nine over par for 72 holes. Phil Mickelson, who opened with a 69 on Thursday, completed a dismal weekend with a 74 that dropped him to 12 over.
