A four-under-par final round of 68 was enough to see the Swede finish one stoke ahead of American Kate Golden. She clinched the title after making an 11-foot birdie putt on the final hole.
Sorenstam, who set a course-record 10-under 62 on Saturday to take a three-stroke lead into the final round, finished with a 17-under-par total of 199 for the championship. "Kate put up a great performance and it was a real battle out there," said Sorenstam, who had been four ahead with just eight to play. "But this is a great way to go into the Solheim. Two wins in a row, and I hope Europe can make it three next Sunday." Under mostly cloudy conditions and the threat of showers, Sorenstam was solid yet uninspired, especially on the back nine. The Swede dropped a shot with a bogey on the par-four 15th, cutting her lead over Golden to one stroke. However, Sorenstam's birdie on the final hole was enough to give her victory. Briton Karen Stupples, a 29-year-old from Kent, had a 70 to finish in a share of third place. Her previous best in four years on the US Tour had been seventh. |
