Sorenstam wins again
Sorenstam claims her eighth LPGA title of the year
A birdie putt on the final hole gives Sorenstam the title
Annika Sorenstam has won her eighth LPGA Tour title of the year after taking the Safeway Classic at the Columbia Edgewater Country Club.

A four-under-par final round of 68 was enough to see the Swede finish one stoke ahead of American Kate Golden.

She clinched the title after making an 11-foot birdie putt on the final hole.

  Leaderboard (US unless stated)
-17 Annika Sorenstam (Swe)
-16 Kate Golden,
-12 Rosie Jones, Karen Stupples (GB)
-9 Michele Redman, Emilee Klein

Sorenstam, who set a course-record 10-under 62 on Saturday to take a three-stroke lead into the final round, finished with a 17-under-par total of 199 for the championship.

"Kate put up a great performance and it was a real battle out there," said Sorenstam, who had been four ahead with just eight to play.

"But this is a great way to go into the Solheim. Two wins in a row, and I hope Europe can make it three next Sunday."

Under mostly cloudy conditions and the threat of showers, Sorenstam was solid yet uninspired, especially on the back nine.

The Swede dropped a shot with a bogey on the par-four 15th, cutting her lead over Golden to one stroke.

However, Sorenstam's birdie on the final hole was enough to give her victory.

Briton Karen Stupples, a 29-year-old from Kent, had a 70 to finish in a share of third place.

Her previous best in four years on the US Tour had been seventh.
