Funny old round-up
BBC Sport Online picks out some of the quirky, offbeat or plain daft stories doing the rounds.

Birdies, bogeys and boas

Golf is hardly an extreme sport, but the Vista Vallarta course in Mexico features a particularly hazardous obstacle.

During practice for the World Golf Championships, which begin on Thursday, a six-foot boa constrictor was spotted in the undergrowth.

Mercifully, Mexico's Esteban Toledo was on hand to deal with the danger, grabbing a stick and poking the reptile until it retreated into the bushes.

The likes of Phil Mickelson, Padraig Harrington and Vijay Singh will all feature in the team event - and all will be extra-keen to steer clear of the rough.

Booze blues

From the seemingly endless stream of pointless studies comes a report which reveals watching sport and drinking go hand-in-hand.

The revelatory study says 53% of sports fans usually binge-drink, classed as having more than four alcoholic beverages, when they watch sport.

The Harvard School of Public Health College Alcohol Study studied 14,000 college students throughout America.

"You cry in your beer if you lose and you celebrate by downing a few if you win," said Henry Wechsler, one of the study's authors.

It's just a shame Wechsler didn't have a word with Tony Adams before going to the bother of quizzing 14,000 students.
