It's all over in Leipzig and Angola fall short of qualifying for the second round of the World Cup. Even a 1-0 win would not have been enough - they needed goals, and in truth they never much looked like scoring them.

89 mins: Ferydoon Zandi gets on the end of another ball pumped into the Angola box, but the striker can only loop a header over the crossbar.

84 mins: More of the same. Rasoul Khatibi rifles in a specualtive shot from 20 yards that Joao Ricardo has to parry over. The Angolans have simply fallen apart since the hammer blow of conceding.

45 mins + 3: Angola's best effort of the half, as Akwa feeds Arsenio Love and the dangerman hits a superb right-foot shot that forces Ebrahim Mirzapour to tip expertly over the crossbar.

45 mins: Mendonca is shown the yellow card, perhaps unfortunately, for standing in front of a free-kick as Iran tried to take it. There will be five minutes of first-half injury time.

43 mins: Iran are in the ascendancy and the ball falls invitingly to Mehdi Mahdavikia inside the penalty area on the right. But his control is dire and the ball skips away as another chance goes begging.

40 mins: Andranik Taymoorian hits a decent right-foot shot from 20 yards that forces Joao Ricardo to make a fine low save, the keeper pouncing on the rebound as Ali Daei closed in.

23 mins: Loco is booked as he is carried off, for a foul on Ali Daei and he will miss the next match if Angola qualify. Meanwhile, striker Arsenio Love is brought on for Mateus.

21 mins: More problems for the African side, as Loco falls to the ground in agony and follows his team-mate in being stretchered off too. So like USA on Friday, for now, Angola are down to nine men.

1500 BST: The Group D tie in Leipzig gets under way between Iran and Angola.

1413 BST: Angola have only a slim chance of progressing to the next round and they need Portugal to beat Mexico as part of the bargain.

They also need to beat Iran, but they have left Mantorras on the bench in favour of an extra midfielder again, with Miloy replacing the suspended Andre.
