ALL THE ACTION AS IT HAPPENED

PLAYER-RATER: Two-goal Miroslav Klose is your man of the match, polling a healthy 9.24%. Jens Lehmann is next best followed, bizarrely, by a clutch of Ecuadorians on 8.67% and above. Some of you were obviously watching a different game.

FULL-TIME: Ecuador 0-3 Germany - an afternoon stroll in the sunshine for Germany. England will be desperate to play Ecuador on this showing.

90 mins: Ecuador win a free kick on the edge of the box but Ivan Kaviedes' weak effort is deflected wide and the resultant corner comes to nothing. It just about sums up their afternoon.

88 mins: "Ecuador were happy with their lot when they turned up here and haven't really shown too much desire all afternoon."
Kevin Gallacher, Five Live Sport.

86 mins: Another stinging effort from Michael Ballack that Cristian Mora does well to push away. More luck than judgement, you suspect.

84 mins: Aston Villa fans will be holding heads in hands after their man Ulises de la Cruz makes yet another error, this time letting in Bastian Schweinsteiger, who blasts his effort into the delirious crowd.

81 mins: POLL RESULTS: Player Rater - Only 27% of those who responded to a poll on Player Rater believe that this German team will go all the way to the final. A total of 32% believe they will fall at the semi-final hurdle and 27% believe it will be a quarter-final exit.

But if they do reach the final, few think they will meet England. In another poll, only 18% said the rivals would meet in the final, while 19% are tipping a second round meeting. A 64% majority say England and Germany will not face each other at this tournament.

80 mins: The crowd chant the name of coach Jurgen Klinsmann as the game enters the last 10 minutes. Without wanting to get too deep into cliche territory, it has been a ruthlessly efficient performance from the Germans, who've done what they needed to without stretching themselves too much. Ecuador, who rested five players, are a shadow of the side that won their first two games.

76 mins: Michael Ballack, who's going to play the full 90 minutes, decides it's time he got on the scoresheet and cracks one in from 30 yards that's a lick of paint away from going in.

75 mins: Gerald Asamoah's first taste of the action, but it's a tame effort that's meat and drink to the keeper.

74 mins: Substitute Tim Borowski goes into the book for persistent fouling.

72 mins: Bernd Schneider is replaced by Gerald Asamoah.

70 mins: Free kick to Ecuador just outside the box. Edison Mendes smacks in a vicious curler which just clears the angle of post and bar with Arsenal's Jens Lehmann looking a beaten man.

67 mins: "Ballack is the player that makes Germany tick."
Kevin Gallacher, Five Live Sport.

67 mins: "I was mildly surprised Klinsmann kept Ballack on, given the challenge on him earlier and the fact he's on a yellow card."
Ian Brown, Five Live Sport.

66 mins: Double substitution for Germany and there will be no hat-trick heroics for Miroslav Klose, who comes off with Torsten Frings. Oliver Neuville and Tim Borowski are the replacements.

62 mins: Luis Antonio Valencia is taken off - before he is sent off. He is replaced by Christian Lara (no relation), who at 5ft 3ins is the smallest player in the World Cup. If Ecuador do play England in the next round the photographers will be desperate for a picture of him next to Peter Crouch.

"After this game England will definitely want to play Ecuador."
Kevin Gallacher, Five Live Sport

"All three of Germany's goals have come from Polish strikers."
Ian Brown, Five Live Sport

57 mins: GOAL: Ecuador 0-3 Germany
Lukas Podolski finally ends his goal drought, sparking wild celebrations and group hugs all round. Bernd Schneider sets up the striker for a neat half-volley, following good work from Bastian Schweinsteiger.

56 mins: Cristian Benitez forces Jens Lehmann to tip over the bar once more with a long-range attempt.

52 mins: Philipp Lahm pickpockets Ulises de la Cruz to send Lukas Podolski through but the striker can't buy a goal at the moment and his angled drive is agonisingly wide.

51 mins: Luis Antonio Valencia is lucky to escape with a yellow card after brutally hacking down Michael Ballack 10 minutes after the ball had gone.

49 mins: Ecuador's half-time oranges have certainly done the trick. They have suddenly got the bit between their teeth and substitute Cristian Benitez is the latest to go close.

48 mins: Edwin Tonorio finds himself in acres of space and lets rip from 35-yards out, forcing a back-peddling Jens Lehmann to hurriedly punch the ball over.

46 mins: Bernd Schneider has a sight of goal in Ecuador's penalty area, but the yellow-shirted defenders swarm around him like angry bees, forcing him to pull it back to Bastian Schweinsteiger whose shot is weak.

45 mins: Felix Borja is replaced by Cristian Benitez.

PLAYER RATER: Amazingly, the Ecuadorians have a better average than the Germans, with keeper Cristian Mora (8.66) getting their lowest mark. Unsurprisingly Miroslav Klose is top overall with 9.16.

"Whoever said Ecuador will get found out earlier was right. England have to finish top for the route to the quarters."
'Whippin' Picidilly', 606 messageboards.

"You might just find that a couple of the big German players are not going to play for too much longer in the second half, because it's pretty much job done."
Kevin Gallacher, Five Live Sport

HALF-TIME: Germany look set to top Group A after going in with a healthy two-goal lead courtesy of a double strike from Miroslav Klose, the man who can't stop scoring.

42 mins: Miroslav Klose is now out on his own in the race to grab the Golden Boot, with four goals in three games.

42 mins: GOAL: Ecuador 0-2 Germany
Miroslav Klose grabs number two, coolly rounding the keeper and slotting into an empty net after Michael Ballack's excellent flick takes out two defenders.

40 mins: Germany look to have this game in their pocket. Ecuador are venturing forward now and again but on the whole they seem content just to be in the second round.

38 mins: "The conditions are dictating the pace of the game. It's very pedestrian, but Germany are bursting forward now and again when they feel the need."
Kevin Gallacher, Five Live Sport.

37 mins: Luis Antonio Valencia slips in a dangerous ball for Ivan Kaviedes to get on the end of, but the angle was always against the striker and his shot is saved.

33 mins: Michael Ballack cops a forearm in the face from the powerhouse that is Jorge Guagua but the referee chooses not to punish the Ecuadorian number two. Probably a wise decision judging by the look on Guagua's face.

32 mins: Miroslav Klose is hungry to add to his tally but this time his snapshot soars over. The Ecuador defence are squabbling among themselves - you could drive a proverbial bus through there at the moment.

29 mins: Michael Ballack tries to put Lukas Podolski through but the bionic man would have struggled to get there before keeper Cristian Mora. Mora's hurried clearance falls to Ballack, who chances his arm with a 50-yard lob that drifts harmlessly wide.

24 mins: Bernd Schneider puts it on a plate for Miroslav Klose, but instead of dinking it over Cristian Mora and into the net, Germany's top man takes a comedy tumble.

21 mins: Ivan Kaviedes is pole-axed by the boot of Bastian Schweinsteiger, which accidentally connects with his head. While Kaviedes receives treatment, players from both side take on water, on what is turning out to be another blistering afternoon in Germany. England must be relieved they are playing later. And so must Sweden, for that matter.

18 mins: Another chance for Germany. Ulises De La Cruz is caught napping, allowing Bastian Schweinsteiger to float one into the box, but Bernd Schneider's effort flies into the crowd.

15 mins: Miroslav Klose goes close again after hurling himself at Philipp Lahm's inviting cross but just fails to connect with his head, much to the relief of the stretched Ecuadorian defence.

14 mins: Ecuador striker Ivan Kaviedes advances towards the German penalty area but is squeezed out by Torsten Frings and Per Mertesacker.

12 mins: "It's probably the quietest the stadium's been all afternoon, with the exception of the cowbells coming from the Ecuador section."
Ian Brown, Five Live Sport.

6 mins: Michael Ballack licks his lips after being presented with a tasty free kick when Luis Antonio Valencia brings him down on the edge of the area. But the German skipper strokes his effort tamely into the wall.

4 mins: Klose's goal is the first Ecuador have conceded in this year's tournament.

3 mins: GOAL: Ecuador 0-1 Germany
Miroslav Klose grabs his third goal of the tournament, drilling the ball home from Bastian Schweinsteiger's pullback. The crowd are in raptures.

1 min: Ecuador give an early warning of their intentions as Luis Antonio Valencia hares down the right and whips in a dangerous low cross which is just gathered by Jens Lehmann as Ivan Kaviedes hovers menacingly.

1500 BST: The Group A decider kicks off in the Olympiastadion in Berlin.

PRE-MATCH BUILD-UP

1457 BST: Love them or loathe them, they are a proud old nation, the Germans. With the starting side linking arms and the subs and coaches following suit, the anthem is fairly belted out as they get ready to try and overtake Ecuador at the top of Group A.

1447 BST: "They've just played Three Lions and both sets of fans sang 'Football's Coming Home' - in English!"
Five Live Sport's Simon Mayo.

1445 BST: "It's a real hothouse atmosphere here, with Germany planning to carry on the momentum they have gained from the first two games."
Ian Brown, Five Live Sport in Berlin.

1435 BST: "This is Germany's 16th World Cup encounter with a South American side. The previous 15 have resulted in 10 wins, three draws and just two defeats."

1425 BST: "We can hardly hear ourselves think. The bedlam coming from the Ecuadorians and the Germans is quite extraordinary."
BBC Five Live Sport's Simon Mayo inside Berlin's Olympiastadion.

1415 BST: No prizes for guessing which team is taking this match the most seriously.

Ecuador's leading World Cup marksman Agustin Delgado is one of five players rested as the South Americans keep one eye on round two, while Germany are almost at full strength. Knee injury victim Christoph Metzelde is the only absentee for the Germans, replaced by Robert Huth. Skipper Michael Ballack is risked, but if he picks up a yellow card he is out of the next round.
