Leon Crouch will serve as acting chairman of Southampton following Michael Wilde's resignation from the football club role. Crouch was vice-chairman under Wilde who stepped down on Wednesday after failing to bring in new investors.
Saints parent Plc opted not to appoint a replacement non-executive director to the Plc or football club boards.
Plc chairman Ken Dulieu said: "We're delighted Leon has agreed to take on the responsibility."
