Port Vale manager Micky Adams praised his defenders after they kept their first clean sheet of the season in Saturday's 0-0 draw at Bradford.
Gareth Owen, Lee Collins and John McCombe have been operating in a three-man defence in the first three matches.
"We defended a lot better than we did against Sheffield United on Tuesday," Adams told BBC Radio Stoke.
"Picking up clean sheets always pleases me and the three lads at the back were absolutely fantastic."
Owen is a doubt for the game away at Macclesfield Town on Tuesday because of a thigh strain.
