Bradford will be glad to have kept a clean sheet after losing 5-0 at Notts County on the opening day, but they rarely threatened against Port Vale.
New signing James Hanson had City's best chance in stoppage time but Vale keeper Chris Martin held his left-footed drive at the second attempt.
Gareth Owen was the stand-out player for the visitors as defences dominated.
Vale forced nine corners but rarely tested the Bradford backline and a stalemate was a fair reflection.
Bradford boss Stuart McCall told BBC Radio Leeds:
"It's nice to get a clean sheet but it wasn't the result I'd hoped for prior to the game.
"They were hard to break down, although we created little of note.
"All in all I was pleased with a lot of aspects but we know we can do better.
Port Vale boss Micky Adams told BBC Radio Stoke:
"On reflection a point here is a decent point. Having said that the longer the game wore on, I feel slightly disappointed.
"They give me everything that they had, but we looked a little bit tired in certain areas particularly in the middle of the park, which is understandable really".
