Celtic have ended their interest in Auxerre defender Gabriel Tamas in order to pursue other defensive targets.
The Romania international had been quoted as saying that he was keen on a transfer to the Scottish champions.
But it appears that the two clubs were unable to agree a fee for the 24-year-old defender.
Tamas' agent Florin Manea denied that it was the player's personal terms that had held up the conclusion of the deal to Celtic.
Three other clubs remain hopeful of signing Tamas should his move to Gordon Strachan's Scottish champions fall through - one from Italy, one from the Netherlands and one from his homeland.
The Romanian outfit would only be looking for a loan deal, while Auxurre are thought to be seeking around 3.5m for the defender who joined from Spartak Moscow last summer.
Tamas, who had joined the Russians from Turkish outfit Galatasaray, played every minute of his country's three group matches at Euro 2008 and now has 35 caps.
During his time with Spartak, he had loan spells with Dinamo Bucharest and Celta Vigo.
