Bristol City chairman happy at "quality" applicants

Steve Lansdown
Lansdown is making his first managerial appointment in five years

Bristol City chairman Steve Lansdown says he faces "a very difficult choice" over the appointment of the club's next manager to replace Gary Johnson.

The search only officially started on Monday but several candidates have been in touch.

Lansdown told the BBC's Late Kick Off programme: "There are an awful lot of applications, from experienced managers to up-and-coming contenders."

The City chairman is hoping to narrow the field down by the end of the week.

"I want everything in place before the end of the season, so the new person has time to assess the club and look at the way forward," Lansdown added.

Alan Curbishley, George Burley, Steve Coppell, Phil Brown, Paul Tisdale, Gareth Southgate and Sean O'Driscoll have all been linked with the job.

Caretaker manager Keith Millen has said he has not had time to think about a possible application for the job.

"If we go and win the next two or three games everyone's going to think I'm great; if we don't win the next two games people are going to think I'm not up for the job. That's how fickle football is," he told BBC Radio Bristol.

Millen's cause has been helped by City's 2-2 draw with top of the table Newcastle on Saturday.
