Cliftonville manager Eddie Patterson criticised his players for "only performing for 35 or 40 minutes out of 90" in Saturday's Irish Cup final.
"We didn't start to play until we were a goal down, made some basic errors and gave away free-kicks which cost us.
"But I can't fault my players for effort given what they have done, from mid-January in particular," said Patterson after the game.
"I thought we had the better chances," added Reds striker Chris Scannell.
"We had some of our boys in tears but fair play to Crusaders - they managed to hold on.
"Their keeper made a few good saves and one of their own players hit the bar so, on another day, we could have had four or five.
"Our supporters turned out in great numbers and we would've liked that trophy but it was not to be our day."
