Terry Yorath led a combative midfield in Mike England's side that went eight games unbeaten in 1980-81, matching the record of the 1958 World Cup team. But Yorath, who went on to manage his country in a very successful spell in the early 1990s, feels that Hughes' team has the edge in goal-scoring ability. "We were more disciplined, but this team has more flair," Yorath told BBC Sport Wales.
David Giles, Ian Walsh and Leighton James were perhaps the main creators in Mike England's side, but Yorath is pleased to be compared to one of the more grafting members of the current team. "When I look at Robbie Savage I smile because he reminds me of myself," said Yorath. He also had sympathy with Mark Hughes' problems in getting Ryan Giggs onto the pitch for friendly matches. "(When I was managing) it was difficult getting Ryan to turn up for friendlies because Alex (Ferguson) didn't want to over-expose him. "I can understand that as a manager."
