Kenny Miller's goal gave Berti Vogts' team a deserved draw |
Scotland manager Berti Vogts insisted after the draw with Germany that every game he has taken charge of so far had been in preparation for this match. Vogts has taken a lot of criticism for some of the performances by the international team since he took over.
But on Saturday, Scotland produced the best result of his reign with a 1-1 draw against the World Cup finalists.
Vogts appeared quietly satisfied afterwards.
"That was our best performance against a very strong German side," he admitted.
"We gave them a really hard time and I think we gave something back to the supporters.
"The progress has started slowly, but we've worked very hard and this was a very big game for us and it is a great result for my boys."
Christian Dailly, who performed superbly in an unfamiliar defensive midfield role, said he hoped the performance showed that Vogts' methods were working.
"It was a really good performance and we maybe could have won," said the West Ham player.
We would have taken the point before the game |
"At 1-0 down at half-time, we were disappointed, as they had only the one chance and they scored from it. "But if you look at the teams and the respective leagues the players play in, this is a great result.
"A lot of the credit has to go to Berti Vogts. He tries things in friendlies and hopefully we've shown here that it's starting to work."
Gary Naysmith, another solid performer, insisted the point was the least the Scots deserved.
"We knew we had under-performed in some of the previous matches, but this was a great performance.
"I thought Germany tired a bit, but I suppose we would have taken the point before the game."
Maurice Ross said Scotland's preparations had been ideal for the game.
"We imposed ourselves on the game, which we'd spoken about all week, and that meant we were able to keep Germany on the back foot."
