| Marks out of 10 for the England players in their international friendly against Croatia.David James: Impressive performance in making four saves in the latter stages of the first half to deny Ivica Olic three times as well as Marijo Maric. Phil Neville: Little to do defensively as Croatia concentrated their attacks on the England left, but contributed little in the attacking sense. Ashley Cole: Frequently exposed by England's diamond formation as Sven-Goran Eriksson's midfielders gravitated towards the centre of the pitch. Rio Ferdinand: Passed the ball well but frequently embarrassed in the air as Croatia created a succession of chances from corners and free-kicks. John Terry: Showcased his strengths - speed and tackling ability - but like Ferdindand should have done better at set-pieces and his reading of the game was sometimes poor. David Beckham: His crossfield pass won the penalty, which he himself deftly despatched, and the England captain also provided the dipping cross for Michael Owen's goal. Steven Gerrard: Making his first competitive start of the season, the Liverpool midfielder produced a typically combative performance but might have provided Ashley Cole with more assistance. Nicky Butt: Limped off midway through the first half, the victim of Jerko Leko's late tackle, after a busy start. Paul Scholes: Another victim of the diamond formation as he became lost in Eriksson's midfield's mire. England's one-time jewel needs to rediscover his shine for the national team. Michael Owen: Claimed his 23rd goal in 51 games in a typical Owen performance - quiet for 50 minutes, but on hand to make the game safe for England with a deadly finish. Emile Heskey: After a subdued performance against Chelsea at the weekend, the Liverpool striker led the line well for England before limping off with an injury. SubstitutesFrank Lampard (replaced Nicky Butt): Initially struggled with Croatia controlling the midfield, but kept at it and scored the pick of the game's goals with a superb long-range strike. Paul Robinson (replaced David James): Competently dealt with a couple of long-range shots, though Croatia were never as threatening as they had been in the first half. Matthew Upson (replaced Rio Ferdinand): Relatively little to do as Croatia's attacks petered out, but along with Terry, might have done better in the build-up to the visitors' goal. Wayne Bridge (replaced Ashley Cole): Gave England better shape on the left as well as sending over a couple of dangerous crosses. Trevor Sinclair (replaced David Beckham): The least impressive of the England subsitutes, the Manchester City winger contributed little after coming on. Joe Cole (replaced Paul Scholes): One of England's more impressive substitutes, Cole caused Croatia problems by running with the ball as well as despatching low shot on 65 minutes that drifted narrowly wide. Kieron Dyer (replaced Michael Owen): Another of England's more influential substitutions, the Newcastle midfielder played up front and his darting runs caused Croatia difficulties. Unlucky to have a goal disallowed for offside. James Beattie (replaced Emile Heskey): The last of the England substitutes, the Southampton striker only had 15 minutes on the pitch, but played a key part in Lampard's goal with a deft touch. Danny Murphy (replaced Steven Gerrard): Not on long enough to gain a rating. Danny Mills (replaced Phil Neville) Not on long enough to gain a rating.
