Tottenham's Jermain Defoe covered a lot of distance for the short time he was on the pitch but that was in order to help haul England back into the match.

Defoe played off Crouch's flick-ons but was also as willing as his lanky partner to drift into his own half in order to get things going for England.

He was even found in defence - but it was often 'hands to pumps' time at the other end of the pitch and Defoe was forced to help out.
