| Saturday, 9 November, 2002, 16:58 GMT Bolton snatch a point ![]() Bolton left it late to salvage something from the game Bolton 1-1 West Brom Per Frandsen scored a late equaliser to earn a point for ten-man Bolton against fellow strugglers West Brom. The visitors thought they had won the battle of the Premiership's basement clubs after Scott Dobie had struck early in the first half.
It almost ensured defeat for Wanderers, but Frandsen's last-minute effort rewarded his side's dogged determination. The hosts shaded the opening exchanges of a physical, tense affair - each side hoping for their first three-point haul for almost two months. Frandsen struck a long-range volley that flashed inches wide of the upright.
And Roberts should have doubled the visitors' advantage just before the interval but Jussi Jaaskelainen managed to save his close-range effort. There was still time before the break for Augustine Okocha to waste a chance to drag Bolton back into the match. The Nigerian made a hash of his opportunity, tripping over the ball as he was about to shoot. Bolton almost equalised when Frandsen drilled a low shot from 12 yards early in the second half.
Substitute Michael Ricketts, who replaced an out-of-sorts Dean Holdsworth, blasted an over-head kick just over the bar as Bolton continued to press. Albion looked content to preserve their lead by defending deep, leaving Roberts as a lone threat to Bolton's defence. The tactic encouraged Bolton to move forward in numbers. They finally made the breakthrough in the dying moments as Frandsen headed home Simon Charlton's cross to salvage a point.
