Blades stun Leeds
Sheffield United striker Peter Ndlovu is mobbed by fans
Match-winner Ndlovu is mobbed by Blades fans
Sheffield United 2-1 Leeds United

Two injury-time goals from Phil Jagielka and Peter Ndlovu piled the pressure on under-fire Leeds boss Terry Venables as Sheffield United snatched a dramatic Worthington Cup victory.

Leeds were just four minutes away from taking their place in the fourth round as they had led from the 24th minute courtesy of a Steve Yates' own goal.

We cannot seem to get a result and it is so frustrating

Leeds manager Terry Venables

But first defender Jagielka scored a sensational 35-yard screamer in the 91st minute and then Ndlovu stabbed home his own rebounded shot to send the Blades into the last 16 with the last kick of the game.

The goal and referee Jeff Winter's final whistle seconds later led to a few hundred jubilant Blades supporters storming onto the pitch - and ugly scenes followed.

It's a side of the game that you just want out and extinguished

Sheffield United manager Neil Warnoc

In response, the Leeds fans started ripping up seats from the top tier of the John Street Stand and throwing them onto the pitch, forcing mounted police to intervene.

They drove the Blades followers back into the remaining three sides of the stadium and beyond the halfway line, and a Football Association inquiry is likely to follow.

The 2,000 Leeds fans were then kept behind by police as the rest of the ground cleared, and as they waited there were chants of both "Venables out" and "Ridsdale out".
