 | When the dust settles, I hope we can look back and be proud that we got to the World Cup semis |
Everyone involved with the England team is really disappointed after the World Cup semi-final loss to Australia.
I don't think we've come to terms with it yet and 'gutted' would be a good word to describe how we feel.
We are disappointed because we know we didn't play our best cricket in South Africa.
We weren't able to put our best batting, bowling and fielding together in the one game.
We know we could have done better and it hurts because we went into the tournament confident that we could beat any team.
It's really hard to take, but it's important that we get things into perspective and have a few days of quiet time.
When the dust settles, I hope we can look back and be proud that we got to the World Cup semis.
If nothing else we were given an idea of where we need to be going and what we need to do to improve.
It's not the end of the world and it's not as if we're not going to face the Aussies again.
In fact, I think it is important that we play against Australia in the Ashes this summer as it will give us a quick shot at redemption.
Good bowling and fielding allowed us to take Australia all the way |
Of the semi-final itself, we just didn't put enough runs on the board. It was simple as that.
Arran Brindle and Clare Connor fought back well in the middle, but 158 wasn't enough and we weren't able put enough pressure on them.
But it was testament to some really good bowling and fantastic fielding on our part that we were able to take them into the last three overs of the game.
I had been really happy with my batting in the group games, but it was a little upsetting to finish with a duck and not to contribute to the team total.
It was a pretty good ball and a pretty good catch that got me out, and those things happen in cricket - it's not football or rugby where you have time to make amends.
It was our third defeat of the tournament, but I wouldn't say the standard of the opposition took us by surprise.
We had played against most of the good teams in recent times, and most of the others at some stage of our career.
 | We need to crack on and keep building on the progress we know we have made
 |
It simply boiled down to how we performed on the day, and it was galling that we didn't put it all together in the way we know we can.
Preparation wasn't the problem as we were as prepared as we could have been. The fitness of the girls has been amazing.
But in no way are we viewing this as a set-back.
The World Cup is a knockout event where you have to perform on the day to succeed.
Nobody considered New Zealand to be the best team in the world after the last final, yet they managed to beat Australia on the day.
We need to crack on and keep building on the progress we know we have made, first against the Aussies and then afterwards on the tour to India.
The World Cup has sadly been disappointing, but it is also just one step on a long journey for this England team.
