Younis celebrates after reaching three figures

Younis Khan made 106 to put Pakistan in a good position on 336-6 at the end of the opening day in the second Test against West Indies in Jamaica.

Dropped on 47, vice-captain Younis made the home side pay before he was caught at gully off Corey Collymore.

He received good support from skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq (50) and Asim Kamal (51) as Pakistan shrugged off the loss of both openers during the morning.

Collymore was the pick of the West Indies attack with 4-55 from 22 overs.

Both sides made changes following the first Test in Barbados, which West Indies won convincingly by 276 runs.

Inzamam and Shoaib Malik returned for Pakistan after serving a one-match ban, while Tino Best was recalled by West Indies in place of injured paceman Fidel Edwards.

The gamble of using Malik as an opener did not pay off for the tourists as he was caught behind for 13 off Collymore, who operated as first change after Best and Daren Powell took the new ball.

Powell made the initial breakthrough for West Indies

Yasir Hameed had been the first to go for 14, edging Powell to Chris Gayle at first slip, after a positive start which saw him collect three boundaries.

From 43-2, Pakistan stabilised the innings with Younis and Inzamam sharing a partnership of 87 either side of lunch.

They were eventually parted when Inzamam prodded forward to off-spinner Gayle, two balls after reaching his half century, and was taken at slip by Devon Smith.

But Smith floored an equally important chance offered by Younis and West Indies had cause to regret the error as he and Kamal added 117 for the fourth wicket.

Younis progressed to his third century in four Tests, and his ninth overall, off 168 balls, hitting 14 fours in the process.

An excellent spell from Collymore brought about his downfall, however, and the seamer also accounted for Kamal, who was bowled off the inside edge.

Shahid Afridi was beaten several times outside off stump by Collymore, but the bowler finally found the edge when he had made 33 and Courtney Browne made no mistake behind the stumps.

Umpire Shepherd bows out

Pakistan avoided further damage, although Kamran Akmal had an anxious moment when he was caught behind by Browne, only to be reprieved by a no-ball call against bowler Best.

He was 24 not out at the close, with Abdul Razzaq on 19.

The Test is the 92nd and last for English umpire David Shepherd, who is stepping down after 24 years.

"It's time to say goodbye to the game. It has been wonderful for me.

"I have got one more Test match and then I go back to England for the county scene. After that, I will put the old coat away for the last time," he said.
