Hollioake ready to skipper England

The Surrey all-rounder appears to be in the frame to take over from Nasser Hussain who stepped down after the World Cup.

The England selectors are also thought to be considering Marcus Trescothick, Michael Vaughan, Paul Collingwood and Andrew Flintoff.

Who would you like to see take the job?

I think Michael Vaughan should be the next England captain because he has shown what he can do with the bat this summer in Test matches, so maybe he should be given the chance to see what he can do for England for the one-day internationals.

I suppose Hollioake will get it since we seem to be hell-bent on pursuing the suicidal notion that one-day cricket is different from Test cricket.

In fact, Hollioake is not good enough to play at the international level, as he has shown on his many trials. Nasser can't have it both ways - he either captains England or he doesn't.

At the moment the one-day side is ruined by an imbecilic selection policy. It is Nasser's job to fight this and insist on his regular Test players. If he is so demoralised that he can't do this he should resign as captain altogether.

I think that Flintoff should be given the nod - he proved to be a class one-day player in the World Cup and has immense pride in playing for England. Vaughan should be considered for the Test captaincy spot if Hussain resigned.

Hollioake certainly is an excellent tactician and motivator. However, one-day planning should be looking forward to the next World Cup in 2007.

Does Hollioake warrant a place in the side as another bits and pieces player, and will he be around in four years' time. Australia showed that bits and pieces don't work - just look at NZ and Sri Lanka!

Hollioake is the best 'English' captain around and a very useful one-day player, it was extraordinary that he wasn't at the World Cup.

Hollioake may be a good captain but he is not good enough to play in an England shirt anymore only when we are short. The main reason for him not being captain is because we have two many all-rounders playing already and we need more specialist players.

Adam Hollioake, oh come on people, when did he last play for his country, let alone captain it! The captain is someone you'll want to play every game, and Adam really isn't that person.

Adam Hollioake is surely the candidate that the English selectors should look up to. Vaughan can be vice-captain for the time Hollioake is captain and learn so that two years down the line England do not have to go through the crisis they are going now.

Of course Hollioake should be captain. It is absolutely disgraceful that he was not in the team at the World Cup as I believe England would have had a chance to win with him there.

To win a World Cup you need people who can perform above the norm and Adam is one of those people certainly with the bat now and even at times with the ball.

The captaincy should not be given to one of England's most talent batsmen (Vaughan). England made that mistake with Atherton, it put pressure on him as a batsmen. The same happened to Stewart.

Having watched him guide England to the Coca-Cola Cup in Sharjah back in 1998, I think Adam Hollioake is the only man for the job. The spirit of the team for that fortnight and the leadership he displayed showed he is well respected. He can play crucial roles in big matches too.
