England v South Africa ODI series

South Africa coach Mickey Arthur said his side lost their momentum in the one-day series against England.

Having won the Test series 2-1, South Africa were thrashed 4-0 in the one-day games and Arthur said: "When we won the Tests we felt we had achieved our goal.

"We had goals for our Test team I think we conquered. The one-day series we always knew was going to be a struggle.

"The one thing I would criticise myself about on this tour was putting too much emphasis on winning the Test series."

Arthur hinted that changes may be made to the one-day side as the Proteas, still ranked second in the one-day rankings, prepare for crucial home and away series against world champions Australia.

"I'm going to take a couple of weeks to go away and reflect and then come to those selection decisions," he said.

"We've got five one-dayers at the end of October, early November against Kenya and Bangladesh which will give us a good base to start from with a young new side."

The older players failed to perform in the crushing defeat against England. Jacques Kallis made only 68 runs in his four innings and Makhaya Ntini took just one wicket for 130 runs in three matches.

"We'll look at the squad composition closer to the time," Arthur commented.

"We were missing some key personnel and we are trying to identify a brand of cricket to play in one-day cricket and then identify players to pick to play that kind of brand."
