England - Young Pretender
Monty Panesar
Age 24
ODI debut: v Australia, January 2007

Having barely been used by Northamptonshire in one-day cricket, Monty Panesar was given his first ODI experience in the CB series.

He answered critics who said he was not suited to the shorter form of the game with nine wickets in nine matches, and has essentially lost his tag as a laughable fielder.

The first Sikh to play for England, Panesar is a popular and engaging figure who could be a mainstay of the England Test and one-day teams for a decade.
