West Indies captain Brian Lara said there was no excuse for his side's inept batting performance in the second innings, as they lost by 10 wickets. England bowled them out for 47, West Indies' lowest ever Test total.
Lara tried to salvage some pride from a miserable first Test saying: ""I think the young fast bowlers Tino Best and Fidel Edwards were great.
"It was not their fault things went wrong. The senior batsmen are definitely to blame today."
Lara, who batted with a dislocated finger but was out for a duck, added: "It came down to a second innings game and we faulted with the bat. It was inept.

" The England guys bowled really well but 47 is something you can't really give a reason for." He tried to put a brave face on the defeat and warned the West Indies should not be written off in the series.
"There is one good thing about this situation, it can't happen again," he said.
"Being bowled out for such a low total, you have to accept that this is going to happen once.
"The guys have got to erase that from their memories, like we did in 1999 against Australia.
"We came to Jamaica in the second Test and were able to beat them quite comfortably.
"As long as this does not affect us psychologically, we can come back and give a very good performance in Trinidad."
