Nixon impressed by Foxes spirit

Paul Nixon
It's pleasure for me to lead these lads. I'm loving it

Paul Nixon

Leicestershire captain Paul Nixon says his side's spirit is playing a big part in their fine start to the season.

The Friends Provident Trophy win over Nottinghamshire booked a spot in the last eight of the competition.

And Leicestershire are also shining in the four-day game where they are second in Division Two of the Championship.

"When you have got guys who want the guy next to them to do as well as they are, that's what it's all about," Nixon told BBC Radio Leicester.

"We have a good team and the guys are gelling together very well and I'm really excited about this year," the former England wicketkeeper, 37, explained.

"We have people who give and not take and that's crucial.

"The management have recruited very good people and excellent cricketers. We have put a lot of hard work in and are delighted."

Nixon is also relishing the responsibility of captaincy: "It's pleasure for me to lead these lads," he said. "I'm loving it and it's a nice challenge.

"I have a lot of experience and surely with that experience you can guide a few people. I have good people around me as well and that's important."
