Foxes rush past defiant Glamorgan

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO
Grace Road (day three): Leicestershire 390 beat Glamorgan 189 & 185 by an innings and 16 runs

Points: Leicestershire 21, Glamorgan 3

Leicestershire wrapped up victory over Glamorgan by an innings and 16 runs just before tea on day three.

Glamorgan had been heading for an even heavier defeat after they were bowled out for 189, made to follow on 201 behind, and were soon reeling at 46-7.

But an astonishing last-wicket stand of 94 by Alex Wharf (51 not out) and David Harrison (64 off 27 balls) nearly forced Leicestershire to bat again.

Harrison hit three sixes but eventually fell to Dillon du Preez (5-48).

Du Preez had ripped through the Welsh county's middle order, trapping Michael Powell, Jamie Dalrymple and Mark Wallace lbw for just one run between them.

He finished with match figures of 8-80, and received good support from Claude Henderson and James Allenby, who both took three wickets in the first innings - while Nadeem Malik grabbed 3-35 in the second innings.

Glamorgan had resumed on their overnight score of 99-6 in their first innings but lost wickets at regular intervals, with only Wharf (30) and Ryan Watkins (33) passing 30.

Following on, all 10 of their second-innings wickets fell in two and a quarter hours between lunch and tea.

The enterprising - and entertaining - Wharf-Harrison stand, which came off just 46 balls, nearly took the match into a fourth innings.

Seamer Harrison, who played one game for England A in 2005 alongside Alastair Cook and Ian Bell but missed the entire 2007 season with a back injury, fell short of his career-best score of 88.

But it was Glamorgan's top five batsmen who must shoulder the blame after none of them scored more than 20 in either innings.
