Harrogate lose despite Patel ton

Defending champions York have won their opening two games

Adam Patel's 111 was not enough to save Harrogate from an eight-wicket defeat to Yorkshire Academy at St Georges Road in the Yorkshire Premier League.

Harrogate posted 204-9 but the Academy replied with 208-2 in just 38 overs, Charlie Roebuck making 109.

York made it two wins out of two with a 135-run win at Appleby-Frodingham.

Scarborough's James Finch took 5-33 as Doncaster were dismissed for 137 at North Marine Road, but Scarborough crumbled to 87 all out in reply.

Defending champions York have taken 14 out of a possible 16 points in their first two games. Simon Mason made 65 at Brumby Hall, with 44 from Alex Collins and 40 from Graham Tomlinson.

On a track described as "a bit wet and a bit slow" by all-rounder Nick Kay, Tom Bartram took four wickets, Neil Laidlaw three and Tomlinson two.

It's a very young team, we're not expecting miracles

Harrogate skipper David Stiff
York may face another tricky track at Hull on Monday. Wicket-keeper Nigel Durham said: "The Hull wicket's often unpredictable so a bit of rain on that can make it very, very interesting and a low score might win."

Scarborough skipper Darren Harland does not expect either veteran Craig White or Yorkshire prodigy Adam Lyth to be available for Monday's trip to Castleford. "But we have some good lads we can call on in the second team," he said.

Harrogate have no points to show for two decent displays, so Monday's trip to struggling Appleby-Frodingham should offer a good chance to open their season's account.

Harrogate skipper David Stiff said: "It'll be one of the games we'll really be pushing to get a win from and kick-start the season. But it's a very young team. We're not expecting miracles."
