Mahela Jayawardene
Sangakkara was glad to see his skipper's batting contribution
Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara said his team "could go far if they were hungry enough" after Sunday's 113-run World Cup thrashing of hosts West Indies.

Sangakkara took two stumpings and completed a run-out as his team laid down a marker to other Cup contenders with their fourth win in five matches.

He said: "It was a day when everyone buckled down and did their job.

"Sanath (Jayasuriya, who hit 118) was amazing as usual and it was great to have the skipper back in the runs."

Jayasuriya and captain Mahela Jayawardene put on 183 in 30 overs to help Sri Lanka to 303-5, before they bowled out the tournament hosts for 190.

Sangakkara said: "The guys have realised that complacency and cruising is not the order of the day.

"It was a great show of character to come back from the loss to South Africa, batting first again and on the same wicket in what were not the best condiitons early on.

"We've got variety and balance. We have three different kinds of fast bowlers, four different kinds of spinners and with the batters we have variety too.

"We have Sanath at the top, the workers in the middle and guys who can finish off with a bang at the end.

"If the guys are hungry enough and if they want it we can go far."

Jayawardene said Sri Lanka's catching and ground-fielding had impressed him.

"We put lots of emphasis on our fielding and we can improve every day and change matches," said the skipper.

"The whole World Cup we're improving.
