De Villiers scored 62 off 45 balls at the start of the South Africa reply |
Opener AB de Villiers said South Africa had done their jobs to perfection after ending Scotland's World Cup hopes with a seven-wicket win on Tuesday. "It was a clinical win and that's exactly what the coach asked for," said De Villiers, who weighed in with 62.
South Africa now face Australia, with the winner topping Group A and taking the two points through to the Super 8.
"We're enjoying ourselves and looking forward to Saturday's big game against Australia," said De Villiers.
The South African opener failed in the first match against the Netherlands but returned to form with his 62 against the Scots coming off just 45 balls.
"They are my first runs in the World Cup. I played a bit better than against Holland obviously, and I'm relieved," said De Villiers.
"I'm just taking it ball by ball at the moment and enjoying myself."
De Villiers was part of a superb fielding display, running out stand-in Scotland captain Ryan Watson with a direct hit from extra-cover.
"We've got a couple of good fielders in the inner ring and all the credit's got to go to (fielding coach) Jonty Rhodes," he said.
"We've been putting in a lot of hours and it's paying off at the moment.
"We're all playing well, the bowlers are coming through nicely and we're putting the runs on the board at the moment."
