Venues Guide - Durban
Kingsmead

MATCHES PLAYED HERE
26-30 December 2nd Test
11 February 6th ODI

Durban is the home to 800,000 people of Indian descent and, as a result, many parts of the city, as well as the local cuisine, have a real sub-continental feel.

Make sure you try the bunny chow when you're in town - a local delicacy of a hollowed-out loaf filled with curry.

The city's climate is perfect for much of the year, but some summer days can get very hot and humid.

Make sure you check the local weather report and its 'discomfort index' as the high humidity can make the temperature feel up to 10 degrees hotter - no fun if you're at the cricket all day.

Apart from the cricket, Durban's main draw is the 6km sweep of 12 beaches, all of which attract the surfing fraternity and some of which are close enough to Kingsmead to enjoy a dip in the Indian Ocean after play.

All the beaches are protected by shark nets and the promenade built along them is home to much of Durban's nightlife.

However, this has been a high crime area in the past so check out the local situation when you arrive.

Victoria Street market in the Indian quarter (though not at night), the Botanic Gardens, as well as both the largest mosque and Hari Krishna temple (just out of town) in the southern hemisphere are also worth a look.
