England's Adlington is one of the biggest stars competing at the Games in Delhi

Nine swimming finals take place at the Delhi Games on Wednesday as a total of 28 gold medals are decided and the athletics is scheduled to start.

England's Fran Halsall is in the 100m freestyle final at 1135 BST while Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington goes in the 4x200m freestyle relay.

Scottish and Welsh cyclists, along with Northern Ireland, will bid for success in the men's point race at 0950 BST.

The athletics will go ahead provided stadium track problems are resolved.

In mid-afternoon in Delhi on Tuesday, workers were battling to ensure the main Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium was in good shape.

The alterations still being made with less than 24 hours to go were fairly significant, with tarmac being laid on the damaged track and half the infield still without grass.

In the pool, nine titles will be decided in a packed session which begins at 1130 BST.

Australia - having won bronze both at the 2008 Olympics and the 2009 World Championships - should be favourites in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay event.

But they were beaten by both England and Scotland four years ago at the Commonwealths in Melbourne.

Who are the home nations' best medal prospects on Wednesday?

After England's Terrence Bosson won silver in the 60kg Greco-Roman wrestling final against India's Ravinder Singh on Tuesday, his compatriot Myroslav Dykun might be hoping to upset the odds in the 66kg event (0900 BST).

He takes on India's world champion Sunil Kumar, while Brett Hawthorn of Wales faces Samoa's Vilamu Fualau.

Fresh from winning silver in the artistic team events, both England's female and male gymnasts will be attempting to make an impression in the individual all-round events from 0900 BST.

Imogen Cairns and Jocelyn Hunt are ones to watch in the women's, while Max Whitlock, Luke Folwell and Reiss Beckford star in the men's.

Meanwhile, lightweight Welsh boxer Darren Edwards will make his first appearance in Delhi.

He has come out of retirement to try to better the bronze he won four years ago in Melbourne and meets Scotland's Josh Taylor from about 0830 BST.

In athletics, European silver medallist Mark Lewis-Francis is the only home nations entrant in the men's 100m heats at 1310 BST.

In the absence of England's European champion Mo Farah, so compatriots Lee Emmanuel and Chris Thompson are outside bets in a 5,000m final which the Kenyans are expected to dominate.
