Froch's defeat against Mikkel Kessler in April was the first of his career
Former world champion Carl Froch will fight Arthur Abraham in Monaco on 2 October as part of the Super Six World Boxing Classic series. Froch had refused to fight in Germany, where Abraham resides, preferring a bout in his own hometown of Nottingham. But the French principality has now been chosen as a neutral venue over Montreal in Canada. Victory for either fighter is likely to book them a place in the semi-finals of the super-middleweight tournament. Andre Ward leads the six-man round-robin tournament with four points, Abraham is second with three points, while Froch is tied with Andrew Dirrell and the man who took his WBC super-middleweight title off him in April, Mikkel Kessler, on two points. | 606: DEBATE |
Late substitution Allan Green has yet to register any points. The four boxers with the most points after their third fights will advance to seeded semis, and 32-year-old Froch is ultra-confident he will progress. "Make no mistake about it, I fully appreciate the threat that Abraham presents to me in this fight," he said. "Whenever two warriors go into battle there will be bloodshed. But there will be only one victor in Monaco and that will be The Cobra." The next action in the series has been scheduled for 25 September when Kessler is due to defend his world title against Green, and Dirrell and Ward go head to head. Venues for both fights have yet to be announced, however.
