    Five skiers to go.

This is where we expect to see the fastest times to influence the medal table.

  3. 'GB's Weston and Wyatt looking smooth and relaxed'published at 13:38 GMT

    Skeleton - training heats

    Lizzy Yarnold
    Two-time Olympic skeleton champion

In the first two runs today Matt Weston has been top or near the top of the leader board.

The Italians, who have had more time on the track seem to be doing well in the training for both the luge and the skeleton so that's pretty regular.

All the top athletes were there or there about with Marcus Wyatt top eight in the training runs. This is still the athletes working out what to do.

Corner four is still proving tricky, as is corner two. Athletes tapping on the walls between corners four and five so it's a little bit messy but Weston and Wyatt look incredibly smooth - relaxed and great form on the sled so physically they are looking really relaxed.

It's a really clear day, the ice is cold and relatively fast. The first two proper runs will be done in the morning so having training at this time it's a nice comparable to the actual competition.

  4. What's the difference between downhill and slalom?published at 13:34 GMT

Alpine Skiing - Men's Team Combined

Just a little reminder of the differences in the two disciplines for you ...

Downhill - A need for speed. This is the longest course with the highest speeds. Athletes get one run down the mountain, although they are allowed practice runs before the race.

Slalom - While downhill focuses on speed, this is the most technical event of alpine skiing. It is the shortest race, with the gates much closer together and sharper turns.

They should do a mixed combined, a male and female downhiller and a male and female slalomer - and add the four times together.

To make things even more exciting, the start order is based on the reverse of this morning’s downhill results.

For example, Italy’s Alex Vinatzer will go last as his team mate Giovanni Franzoni finished first in downhill this morning.

Not sure what slalom is? Don’t worry I’ve got you.

While downhill focuses on speed, slalom is the most technical event of alpine skiing.

It is the shortest race, with the gates much closer together and sharper turns.

In this team combined event, skiers will only have one run.

    It’s all or nothing.

Alpine Skiing - Men's Team Combined

Men's team combined is a brand new event for the Winter Olympics and this morning it proved it’s worthy of a place at the Games because there was plenty of high-risk sking and drama.

Switzerland had a clean sweep across the podium at the 2025 World Championships but their plans to replicate that at these Games were disrupted by Italy's Giovanni Franzoni unbelievably fast run in the downhill.

He crossed the line in a time of one minute and 51.80 seconds, with Switzerland's Alexis Monney in second and his compatriot Marco Odermatt in third.

It is only the midway stage, though, and it could all very easily change in the slalom.

GB's Kirsty Muir speaking to BBC Sport: "I put it out there on every run and the second jump, I wanted to get that, but it just wasn't working for me today.

"I was so proud to put one down. I'm struggling to accept how close it was but I know I have more in me.

"I'm still thinking about this one but I'm looking forward to Big Air. I just need to take this one in. I got to see the family, they were hugging me a bit too tightly I was getting a bit claustrophobic, but knowing they are proud of me no matter what, I can take that away as well."

I think Muir might have to go somewhere to say lots of expletives. It's so raw and the level is so high. For it to be so close, at the end of the day she put her heart and soul in that final run.

So tight and it's almost better to come 10th than fourth but she'll be able to look back and know she was the fourth best slope skier in the whole world.
