Julia Simon had brilliant recovery after one miss at the range and just as she came up to the line, Franziska Preuss had two misses on the fourth and that was enough for Simon to say silence to the Germans in the crowd.

She knew in that moment that what she'd done was good enough for gold number two.

You have to feel for Jakara Anthony, all of Australia was watching this for her.

She started off so well, everything was looking good, but she lost control when the tips crossed. She just couldn't recover, shooting three or four moguls.

They call it 'shooting forward' when you don't really make a turn and you don't get any score for that section of the bumps.

The favourite blew it.

Elizabeth Lemley definitely wasn't expecting the gold.

Remember this is her first Olympics, she's had the most supersonic and meteoric rise to get to the World Cup and get to the Olympics.

Talk about grabbing your chances. She absorbed all of those moguls and charged in the air, it was an absolutely epic run. Everything clicked for her.

It is not yet a second gold for the Frenchwoman but she is getting ever close.

Simon's time to beat is 41:15.6 as her team-mate Lou Jeanmonnot crosses the line and moves into the silver medal position.

The controversial France star was 19 of 20 on the shooting range and she is a strong skier as well. That see her beat Lora Hristova's time by one minute and four seconds despite the Bulgarian shooting clean.

That pushes Italy's Dorothea Wierer out of the medal places in her farewell season.

And now two big misses for Franziska Preuss take the German out of the running!

We have a new leader and it's Bulgaria's Lora Hristova.

Shooting clean has been the key for Hristova. Her time of 42:20.1 might take some beating.

Julia Simon and Camille Bened, both of France, are among those with a chance of beating it if they avoid any further errors on the shooting range. Germany's Franziska Preuss is another.

Well, Simon and she heads on for one last 3km circuit - but a miss from Bened may well end her chances.

We are halfway through the second run of the women's moguls final and the pace is being set by France's Perrine Laffont, the 2018 gold medallist, with 78.00.

But defending champion Jakara Anthony and Beijing silver medallist Jaelin Kauf of the United States are still to come.

Switzerland's Lea Meier is currently the time to beat. She finishes in 42:53.0 after hitting 19 of 20 targets at the shooting range.

• Chloe Kim of the USA, bidding to become the first snowboarder to win three consecutive Olympic golds in the same event, has come through snowboard halfpipe qualifying, but there was concern as China's Liu Jiayu crashed heavily and was carried away on a stretcher.
• Switzerland's Franjo von Allmen won his third gold medal of the Games, triumphing in the alpine skiing men's Super-G. "I'm feeling like I'm dreaming," he said.
• Jens Luraas Oftebro of Norway takes the second gold of the day with victory in the Nordic combined normal hill/10km cross country event.
• Britain's big hope of a medal today comes later in the figure skating, as Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson attempt to secure a top-three finish with an impressive performance in the free dance event. That gets under way at 18:30 GMT.

That's the end of the first final in the women's moguls to reduce the field from 20 to the eight who will go again shortly for medals.

Australian defending champion Jakara Anthony heads the standings with 83.96 with American Jaelin Kauf second on 80.13 and Japan's Hinako Tomitaka third with 79.42.

It's the two French hopefuls who currently lead after the first checkpoint, following the first shooting range.

Lou Jeanmonnot marginally quicker than Julia Simon. But two misses from Justine Braisaz-Bouchet leave her with work to do.

Some of the real medal hopefuls are yet to reach that point, though.

Meanwhile, Bulgaria's Lora Hristova remains flawless on the shooting range after three visits - 15 from 15 to keep her in the hunt.

Two clean visits to the shooting range put Bulgaria's Lora Hristova at the top of the standings as things stand, it can all change very quickly.

The big hitters are all beginning now as well with Italian pair Dorothea Wierer and Lisa Vittozzi both on the course now as well.

Julia Simon's really is a remarkable story. The world champion is just getting under way now.

Her relay team-mate Lou Jeanmonnot, another big medal hope for France, begins three minutes later with Justine Braisaz-Bouchet a further minute behind.

With the staggered start, it's not straightforward to say who is leading at any given moment. But USA's Deedra Irwin shot cleanly and was quick as well to put her in a good position.

Czech Republic's Tereza Vobornikova is also going well.

Medals are up for grabs this afternoon in the women's moguls.

The moguls course is just over 200m long, is incredibly steep and features artificial bumps that the skiers must navigate with tight turns and aerial jumps. Athletes are judged on their speed, turns and aerial manoeuvres.

A top eight finish in Final 1 will get you into Final 2 with the pace currently being set by American Jaelin Kauf.

France's Julia Simon is the reigning world champion in the individual discipline, nailing 19 of 20 shots to clinch gold last year. She has 10 world titles - six in relays, two in pursuit and one in sprint, plus the overall World Cup title in 2022-23.

But her 2026 preparations have been tumultuous - her selection was in doubt for much of this Olympic cycle and she was only cleared to compete in November.

In October 2025, she was found guilty by a French court of using the bank card of team-mate Justine Braisaz-Bouchet and that of a French team physio to spend more than 2,000 euros online. She eventually admitted the offence, saying “I can’t explain it - I don’t remember doing it, I can’t make sense of it”.

In November, she was fined and handed a suspended three-month prison sentence. The French Ski Federation then banned her for six months, five of which were suspended – in effect, that amounted to sitting out the first week of the World Cup season.

She returned in Austria on 12 December, saying she had “cleared the air” in private talks with team-mates. While there has been criticism of the leniency of the ban, Simon appears to have been gradually reintegrated into the team – she competed alongside Braisaz-Bouchet in the final two women’s relays prior to these Games.

Simon was also part of France's mixed relay team - that did not include Braisaz-Bouchet - that won gold on Sunday so will hope to add another medal today.

There's a Brit to cheer on in this one.

Shawna Pendry was born in Derby but she moved to the French Pyrenees with her family at the age of four and started cross-country skiing aged eight.

She swapped to biathlon in 2013 and competed at the Youth Olympics in 2020, coming a creditable 12th, but she's yet to prove herself on the senior stage.

Pendry will be one of the last up here, the 88th of 90 to be precise.
