Italy's Daniel Grassl has just gone top of the men's short program leader board with a massive score of 93.46. The roof almost came off the arena amid Italian delight.

After team figure skating bronze and short track relay gold earlier today, Grassl is in the hunt for another home medal in this stadium.

    Women's ice hockey - Canada 0-4 USA

That's Canada's first real chance of the night and has probably woken USA goalie Aerin Frankel from her slumber.

She's unsighted as she blocks a long range effort and is quick to pounce on the loose puck.

Just skating, to Kiss by Prince, was Aleksandr Selevko of Estonia. He's appropriately wearing purple sequins.

Selevko qualified courtesy of his performance at the European Championships, where he narrowly secured the Estonian place at these Games ahead of his brother, Mihhail Selevko.

USA score fourth goalpublished at 20:37 GMT 10 February

    Women's ice hockey - Canada 0-4 USA

This is an exhibition from USA!

The puck is pinched off the stick of Blayre Turnball as she goes on the attack for Canada and Abbey Murphy breaks down the left wing.

She stops on red line and plays the puck back to Hannah Bilka who snaps a first-time shot into the top corner.

That's her second of the game and USA's fourth.

Three of USA's four goals have come from their second line. They've been flawless.

Nope, it's not Canada's moment. Two minutes of powerplay comes and goes and they waste their one promising attack by straying offside. Natalie Spooner and Julia Gosling got their wires crossed there.

Is this the moment for Canada?

USA's Kirsten Simms is sent to the box for two minutes for a hefty check on Laura Stacey.

    Women's ice hockey - Canada 0-3 USA

Canada have successfully killed three of their four penalties tonight, but they're inviting pressure on themselves and are still yet to trouble USA goalie Aerin Frankel.

    Women's ice hockey - Canada 0-3 USA

The opening five minutes of the second period were action packed, with multiple video reviews, USA's controversial goal, and two penalties against Canada.

After some scrappy back and forth hockey, Canada are going to have to defend another penalty as Kristin O'Neill is sent to the penalty box for a cross-check.

Some particularly stunning outfits from the competitors in this next section.

France's Kevin Aymoz is dressed somewhere between a Roman gladiator and an extra from Star Trek.

    Women's ice hockey - Canada 0-3 USA

Canada kill the penalty and are back to full strength.

With renewed vigour, they surge forward and find themselves three on two but a player needlessly strays offside. Pressure... released.

USA score third goalpublished at 20:16 GMT 10 February

    Women's ice hockey - Canada 0-3 USA

Canada's appeal is unsuccessful. The goal stands and USA lead by three.

I can understand Canada's frustration. And to rub salt in the wound, they receive a two-minute penalty for delaying the game. Julia Gosling will serve the bench penalty, so USA are back on the powerplay.

    Phew.

    Women's ice hockey - Canada 0-2 USA

The puck completely crossed the line - it's a goal! Canada are not happy about that.

Kirsten Simms has USA's third, reacting fastest to a ricochet from Tessa Janecke's shot.

But wait... Canada want to review this for possible goalie interference.

    Women's ice hockey - Canada 0-2 USA

There's a goal-line scramble and USA think they've forced the puck over the line.

Tessa Janecke is convinced but Canada's net-minder says her pads were pushed by Kirsten Simms, taking the puck with her,

The referee says no goal on the ice but it goes to a video review.

USA go on the powerplaypublished at 20:09 GMT 10 February

    Women's ice hockey - Canada 0-2 USA

This is already more energetic from Canada.

Net-minder Ann-Renee Desbiens does some cleaning up behind her goal, unleashes a counter-attack, and Canada get a couple of shots away.

However, off the puck, USA forward Abbey Murphy is caught by Sarah Fillier as the Canadian enters the ice. It's being reviewed by the referees but will stay as a two-minute penalty for interference.

    USA go on the powerplay.
