  4. 'I don't know if you can have your cake and eat it'published at 11:46 GMT 28 January

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

On Iga Swiatek's comments about players needing more privacy:

It's a tough one because we're trying to sell our sport more than anything.

We know what happened with Formula 1 when all the documentaries came out and everyone was saying 'we're learning so much more about what goes into that world' and tennis copied it, did a documentary and a lot of the players were very happy for that. I don't know if you can have your cake and eat it.

I would imagine, everything we sign when we get our accreditation, you know what you're signing up to.

For the enormous paychecks they receive these days for coming to play on the tour and these tournaments, that's a part of what goes hand-in-hand with the business side of it to sell the sport.

  5. 'Are we tennis players or zoo animals?'published at 11:44 GMT 28 January

Iga Swiatek says players are being watched "like animals in the zoo" by behind-the-scenes cameras at the Australian Open.

Coco Gauff was captured smashing her racquet in a corridor in the players' area at Melbourne Park on Tuesday, leading the American to call for more privacy.

"Are we tennis players, or are we animals in the zoo where they are observed even when they poop?" said Poland's Swiatek, who lost in the quarter-finals to Elena Rybakina on Wednesday.

Semi-finalist Jessica Pegula described the constant filming as an "invasion of privacy" that needs to be "cut back".

"You just feel like you're under a microscope constantly," the American added.

  6. What's happened today?published at 11:41 GMT 28 January

Here's a quick rundown of everything that's happened today in the singles' draws...

Iga Swiatek's bid to complete the career Grand Slam at this year's Australian Open was ended by Kazakh fifth seed Elena Rybakina in the quarter-finals.

Reigning Wimbledon champion Swiatek lost 7-5 6-1 as Rybakina used her power to devastating effect.

Rybakina will face American sixth seed Jessica Pegula following her 6-2 7-6 (7-1) win over Amanda Anisimova.

Novak Djokovic reached his 13th Australian Open after Lorenzo Musetti retired injured whilst two sets up against the 24-time Grand Slam champion.

And as we've just seen, defending Jannik Sinner has just sailed past American eighth seed Ben Shelton in straight sets.

Jannik Sinner getting through to the last four means it is the first time since the 2019 French Open that the top four men's seeds have reached the semi-finals of a Grand Slam.

Back then it was Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Dominic Thiem. What a line-up.

Finally from Jannik Sinner on the semi-final between Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev: "When you play the same day it's still a bit different, you go with your own schedule and you have to warm up beforehand so, you of course follow the score but at the same time you have one opponent.

"Hopefully it will be a great couple of semi-finals, we are all still very happy to be here. We see how it goes."

  12. 'I've had lessons in the past against Djokovic'published at 11:20 GMT 28 January

    Shelton 3-6 4-6 4-6 Sinner

Jannik Sinner on facing Novak Djokovic again: "These are the moments you practise for. You wake up in the morning and you just look forward to playing a good match, and if you want to win you have to play your best.

"I'm looking forward to it but also I've had great lessons in the past and [the results of those matches] doesn't really matter, it improves you as a player and as a person.

"We're so lucky to have Novak here - playing incredible tennis at his age. We play for you guys but we also play for us so hopefully it's going to be a great battle out here but of course it's going to be very, very difficult."

  13. 'I feel stronger physically'published at 11:16 GMT 28 January

More from Jannik Sinner on recovering following his win over Luciano Darderi on Monday: "I was struggling but we go day-by-day. I had that great win a couple of days ago against a fellow Italian which gave a big confidence boost and then again today I feel like I was moving a little bit better. I feel stronger physically again.

"I'm very happy to be here in the semis again. First tournament of the season and of course we all know what challenge I'm up to but I'm looking forward to it."

  14. 'I feel like I returned great today'published at 11:13 GMT 28 January

    Shelton 3-6 4-6 4-6 Sinner

Jannik Sinner on how he returned Shelton's serve of 222km/h with only half a second to react: "I'm not good in mathematics so thanks for telling me that. I honestly don't know. It's just instinct and it's not always about the power. The serves I can handle because they're closer to my body so it's slightly easier but he's also a leftie and we don't have many lefties in our game so it's definitely one of the tougher challenges to return his serve.

"Also the second serve has a lot of spin on it and the ball is bouncy here, it helps a little playing in the evening but it's still very, very difficult. I feel like I returned great today."

  15. 'Very happy with the performance'published at 11:09 GMT 28 January

    Shelton 3-6 4-6 4-6 Sinner

Jannik Sinner, speaking on court after his quarter-final victory over Ben Shelton: "First of all it's very tough to play against Ben. He has a huge, huge serve and I feel like he's improving so much year after year. Especially after the off-season, you never know how certain players are going to play against you and [they can] change a lot of things.

"Very happy with my performance, thank you for the support, it's amazing to play here on this court."

Ben Shelton headed off court pretty quickly there. Disappointment for the American.

He's broken Jannik Sinner's serve just three times in his past five matches against the Italian.
