    Breaking

    Xiao 2-6 Pang

We have our first seed to be eliminated and 12th seed Xiao Guodong has fallen, losing 6-2 to fellow Chinese player Pang Junxu, who will play Mark Williams in the last 16.

  3. Williams wins to maintain seeds winning runpublished at 23:16 GMT 30 November 2025

    Williams 6-4 Gilbert

Fifth seed Mark Williams, who won this tournament in 1999 and 2002, claimed a 6-4 victory over David Gilbert in the evening session to move into the last 16.

Williams, 50, lost a lengthy opening frame, made it 1-1 but a fine break of 102 gave Gilbert, the world number 24, a 2-1 advantage.

But Williams then recorded breaks of 51, 89, 73 and 55 to move 5-2 ahead and go one frame from victory. Gilbert responded with a 100 break for his second century and then a 50 to pull it back to 5-4.

However, it did not matter as Williams then did enough to get the victory to set up a match against either China's 12th seed Xiao Guodong or compatriot Pang Junxu. Pang currently leads 5-2.

Williams' win means all seven players to be seeded and to have finished their matches have all won, although Xiao is in grave danger of being the first seed to be eliminated.

  4. Williams wins to move into last 16published at 22:57 GMT 30 November 2025
    Breaking

    Williams 6-4 Gilbert

Mark Williams gets over the line with a 6-4 win over David Gilbert to move into the last 16.

Gilbert had chances in the last frame after Williams had missed a blue off the spot and then got unlucky with a deflection that diverted the cue ball into the middle pocket after potting the black.

But Gilbert could not capitalise and Williams advances, to maintain the record of all seeded players winning so far.

  5. Gilbert wins second successive framepublished at 22:38 GMT 30 November 2025

Williams 5-4 Gilbert, Xiao 2-4 Pang

It's getting interesting on table one as David Gilbert has won his second frame in a row to leave the score 5-4 to Mark Williams.

The Welshman, a winner of this event in both 1999 and 2002, had chances but missed a red early on and then gifted the table to his opponent when he mistakenly clipped the green to concede a four-point foul. Gilbert then made a 50 break to leave Williams getting a bit nervous.

On table two, Pang Junxu now leads 4-2 against Xiao Guodong.

  6. Gilbert keeps hopes alive with a centurypublished at 22:12 GMT 30 November 2025

    Williams 5-3 Gilbert

Mark Williams has not done much wrong in the past hour, but a missed black off the spot early in frame eight is ruthlessly punished by David Gilbert as he makes 100 to take the score to 5-3 to Williams.

  7. Williams one away from victorypublished at 22:04 GMT 30 November 2025

    Williams 5-2 Gilbert

Having gone 2-1 behind, it looked like a tough night for Mark Williams, but he has now won four frames in a row.

Since the mid-session interval he has made breaks of 89, 73 and now 55, with David Gilbert restricted to only 64 points in the past four frames.

  8. Williams two ahead, Xiao hits second centurypublished at 21:51 GMT 30 November 2025

Williams 4-2 Gilbert, Xiao 2-3 Pang

Mark Williams, the third seed, is threatening to run away with this match now. A break of 73 helps him move two frames ahead for the first time and he is in a promising position early in the next frame.

Xiao Guodong, meanwhile, has pulled another frame back and is now 3-2 behind against Pang Junxu following a break of 104, for back-to-back centuries, either side of the mid-session interval, after a 101 in frame four.

    Xiao 1-3 Pang

No action on either table at the moment as both matches are at the mid-session interval. Xiao Guodong took the fourth frame on table two thanks to a century break of 101 to reduce the deficit to 3-1 against Pang Junxu.

However, Pang has only potted 10 more balls (66 to 56) but has two more frames to his name.

  14. Williams draws levelpublished at 21:01 GMT 30 November 2025

Williams 2-2 Gilbert, Xiao 0-3 Pang

All square at the mid-session interview on table one. Mark Williams stormed into a 63-1 lead in frame four but then missed a red, with him jokingly threatening to throw his cue like a javelin.

It's a good job he didn't, as he needs it soon after after David Gilbert misses a black off the spot and Williams takes advantage to make it 2-2.

Over on table two, 12th seed Xiao Guodong is in trouble as he finds himself 3-0 behind against Pang Junxu.

  15. Gilbert retakes lead with fine centurypublished at 20:45 GMT 30 November 2025

    Williams 1-2 Gilbert

The first century of the night comes from David Gilbert with a rapid fire 102 to retake the lead against Mark Williams, with the Englishman 2-1 in front.

  16. Strong safety game brings Williams levelpublished at 20:22 GMT 30 November 2025

    Williams 1-1 Gilbert

David Gilbert was in a good position to make it 2-0 as he made a break of 55, before missing a long blue.

Superb safety work from Mark Williams, drawing repeated fouls, chipped away at the 'Angry Farmer's' advantage, before Williams got his chance on the brown ball and did the rest from there.

China's Pang Junxu, with his mother Pang Yam in the crowd - believed to be the first time she has seen him play in a match in the UK - is doing nicely against compatriot Xiao Guodong and leads 2-0 in their first-to-six clash.

    Williams 0-1 Gilbert

All six of the seeds that have been in action so far have won, but will third seed Mark Williams be the first to fall?

After a long old first frame, it went Gilbert's way and he then compiled a break of 55 in the second, before a missed long blue has given Williams a chance to make it 1-1.

On table two, in the match of two Chinese players, qualifier Pang Junxu took the opener against 12th seed Xiao Guodong.

  18. A long night ahead?published at 19:38 GMT 30 November 2025

Williams 0-0 Gilbert, Xiao 0-0 Pang

It is slow progress in the evening matches. There was a 10-minute spell without a ball being potted in the encounter on table one between Mark Williams and David Gilbert.

They are currently locked in a safety battle. Over on table two, Pang Junxu has a 69-23 lead over Xiao Guodong, with Xiao needing three snookers, but battling on.

  19. Wu sets up last-16 tie with Robertsonpublished at 19:28 GMT 30 November 2025

Neil Robertson got back into the top 16, meaning he automatically qualified for the major tournaments, in September 2024 by beating China's Wu Yize 9-7 in the final of the English Open.

The pair will again play each other in the last 16 in York later this week after Wu held off a fightback from England's Michael Holt to secure a 6-4 victory.

Wu, 22, moved into a 5-0 lead, thanks to breaks of 55, 78, 82 and 81, which included 11 reds and 10 blacks before any hope of a 147 ended with a miss on the 11th black.

But 47-year-old Holt, a quarter-finalist last year, staged a recovery with runs of 59, 82 and 60 to pull within one frame, before Wu sealed the 10th frame to clinch the victory.

Twelve players from China were among the 32 in York and Wu became the second of those to reach the last 16 after Si Jiahui's 6-0 triumph over Ryan Day on Saturday.
