What a bizarre, pulsating, entertaining and frustrating game that summed up everything that is great about the Six Nations.

The dragon awoke from its three-year slumber as Wales looked set to end their 13-game losing run in the Six Nations.

They led 17-5 at half-time through tries from Rhys Carre and Josh Adams.

But Scotland mounted a comeback as Finn Russell crossed but it was his stunning piece of opportunism to set up Darcy Graham direct from the restart - after a Wales penalty - that turned the tide.

George Turner then finished a drive to snatch Scotland the lead for the first time of the game in the 74th minute and a bonus-point win.

Wales captain Dewi Lake called it "gut-wrenching" and this loss will hurt.

But there were at least some sign of progress by his team that brought the Cardiff crowd to life.

Wales next travel to Ireland on Friday, 5 March while Scotland host France the following day before a Triple Crown showdown in Dublin on the final weekend.

This is a ridiculous game of rugby.

Scotland battled, fighting against their own shortcomings and won that battle.

They beat Wales but they beat their own demons. They lost the breakdown battle, never got their attack going, but their belief was that bit stronger and their players were that bit better.

You've got to give them credit. We are looking for resilience and guys who can problem solve under pressure. They did that and got five points.

  4. Restart was 'a coach killer' - Russellpublished at 19:22 GMT

Scotland fly-half Finn Russell said Wales head coach Steve Tandy will be frustrated that his side conceded straight off a restart.

"He [Tandy] knows that's something I look for and Darcy scoring is a coach killer," Russell told BBC One.

"We knew they were going to come out passionately. We weren't good enough at the breakdown. We expected a tough and tight game, especially with Steve knowing us so well.

"Lee Radford and Gregor had a go at us at half-time to hit them and stop absorbing contact. It's nice to have so many line breaks but to only score four tries is frustrating.

"It's obviously good having 11 points on the board. There was pressure this week, but it was more expectation.

"We'll take 11 points but we know it could have been better. It's nice to have the break now and get ready for France.

"We got the win even though it maybe wasn't our best performance.

"It's something we've worked a lot on in this campaign - having composure and being calm in the 22. Now it's only going to the backs when it's on."

  5. Costelow to have scan on Mondaypublished at 19:22 GMT

Wales fly-half Sam Costelow limped off in the second half.

Head coach Steve Tandy told BBC Sport Wales: "He will have a scan on Monday and he doesn't look good at the moment.

"He was fantastic with the way he drove the team forward in that first half.

"He's been through a lot in his Wales career with not being involved in the autumn but we backed him to come back in and he really took that opportunity.

"It's such a shame for him that it ended with injury."

Wales head coach Steve Tandy speaking on BBC One: "Obviously disappointed with the result.

"We felt it was a game that we could have and should have won, but ultimately the performance was much better. We asked the players to be better than last week and they were.

"We showed a lot more intent, we're starting to take shape around the way we want to play, and we're bitterly disappointed not to win. To lose at the back end is disapointing, and some decisions didn't go our way.

"The thing we've talked about is better performances, if you take the result it's bitterly disappointing, but ultimately we feel like we are getting to where we need to be."

  8. Anything can happen in the Championship - Townsendpublished at 19:17 GMT

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend speaking on BBC One: "That was some game. It would have been great for the neutrals. We left it late but I'm really proud of the effort in the second-half.

"It's not just a physical effort, it's a mental effort too - finding solutions, staying together and riding momentum waves.

"Wales started really well, played with real energy. Tactically they were excellent. They took us on wide and defended well.

"We needed to up our effort in the second-half, which we did and our bench made an impact which was pleasing."

[On Darcy Graham's try]: "That was a big moment in the game and credit goes to Finn for seeing that space and Darcy being alive to it. The scrum penalty near the end was a huge moment too.

"It's a 23-man game and we backed our bench. I thought Josh Bayliss was outstanding.

"We're still in the championship. That's all that counts.

"Today showed - not just our game - that anything can happen in the championship.

"We'll be underdogs against France and we know we'll have to play our best rugby."

Scotland captain Sione Tuipulotu tells BBC One: "We dug deep. We did what we needed to do to win ugly.

"Full credit to Wales and their fans, what an atmosphere.

"Some of the boys in the pack put their hand up and kept going forward in defence.

"Rory Darge thoroughly deserved player of the match, he kept smashing things in front of him. That got us field position and we managed to execute at the end of the game.

"We'll have to fix a few things before we play the French in a couple of weeks."

Wales captain Dewi Lake speaking on S4C: "The boys were class today, we were dominant and showed in the first half what we can do.

"I hope everyone can see the improvements today, especially in defence.

"It's silly mistakes in the second-half and we've spoke about these moments and staying in games and unfortunately Scotland punished us today.

"Finn (Russell) is fast on his feet and Graham scores in the corner. Even after that I thought we were good.

"A few penalties went against us. Even though the scoreline wasn't there today I think our performance was great."

  15. 'Kick-off error cost Wales win'published at 19:03 GMT

    FT: Wales 23-26 Scotland

    Martin Johnson
England's World Cup winning captain on BBC One

Fair play to Scotland, it was all about keeping composure and finding a way to win and they did that.

Wales will wake up tomorrow and they'll think the try straight off the kick off has cost them the game. Not looking at the ball after a kick off has cost them.

It all comes down to fundamentals. That was such a huge moment, it changed the game completely.

Credit to Scotland for coming back. It was brave of them after the restart to go and attack Wales and the game changed after that Graham try. Scotland got away with that.

Wales were brilliant. There was so much in that for Wales to build on and they'll be frustrated that they haven't won.

But there were so many positives for Wales.

If you gave me this result before the game I would’ve taken it, but I think how it was just one moment (Darcy Graham's try) that got Scotland back into the game makes it so much harder to take.
