Well... I don't think the likely winner of this match was ever really questioned before kick-off but few would have thought the scoreline would be quite this bad for Wales who have been annihilated.

    Or perhaps they did?

A record defeat and held pointless in Cardiff for the first time in 58 years.

As our pundit and former Wales fly-half James Hook has just said, it was "lambs to the slaughter".

Questions will again be asked of the Welsh Rugby Union about how wise it was to hold this extra game at the end of a tough autumn.

It was simply never a contest and South Africa emphasised just why they are the world's number one team with an utterly ruthless and brutal performance that delivered 11 tries.

There is plenty for Wales head coach Steve Tandy to do over the coming months before their next game - the start of the Six Nations.

But you suspect with Welsh rugby that there will be plenty more action off the field before that.

You can follow all the latest Welsh rugby news on the BBC Sport website including the inquest into this horrific loss.

But for now, from the Principality Stadium, goodbye.

  3. 'We don't want to put the boys through this' - Tandypublished at 17:48 GMT 29 November 2025

    FT: Wales 0-73 South Africa

Wales head coach Steve Tandy speaking to S4C: "You know the character we have and looking at the score line it won’t reflect that. There was a lot of power and they dominated from the start.

"There's a lot of fixtures, we need to play games to achieve and gain experience.

"I know the score line is not great but we need these young boys to get game time and with test matches like this it happens.

"We don't want to put the boys through this but we did."

  4. 'Lambs to the slaughter'published at 17:46 GMT 29 November 2025

    FT: Wales 0-73 South Africa

    James Hook
Former Wales fly-half on BBC Radio Wales

It's not the time to pick out individuals or flaws in how we attacked or how we defended.

Everybody knows the situation with Welsh rugby at the moment, on and off the field, there's so much uncertainty and that's having an effect on these players.

The uncertainty as to whether these boys are going to have jobs in the next six months or a year, so it is taking its toll and then you add this fixture in at the end of an Autumn campaign, which has already been a struggle, against the world champions.

Frankly, it was lambs to the slaughter today and it's hard to blame any of those Welsh players.

It may have gone a little under the radar given the scale of the result but there was silverware up for grabs today.

Siya Kolisi lifted the Prince William Cup which was created in 2007 by the Welsh Rugby Union to celebrate 100 years of this rivalry.

It is named after the vice royal patron pf the WRU, the Prince of Wales, and was first presented in 2007.

Never has it been so one-sided.

  6. 'A hiding to nothing'published at 17:39 GMT 29 November 2025

    Ian Gough
Former Wales international on BBC Radio Wales

This was so bad. For South Africa that second half was like a training ground exercise. The gulf is remarkable and there are no quick fixes for Wales.

It was always going to be an absolute hiding to nothing but I thought we would have scored more points.

Even with our first team it would have been over 50 points.

  7. 'We can’t ignore the score and the performance' - Lakepublished at 17:36 GMT 29 November 2025

    FT: Wales 0-73 South Africa

Wales captain Dewi Lake speaking to S4C: "I believe our physically was okay but we were overpowered.

"We can’t ignore the score and the performance, there’s not much to say if I’m honest.

"When you play the best team in the world, you need to step up and we didn't have any ball to play and that costs us."

  9. Pointless Walespublished at 17:31 GMT 29 November 2025

    FT: Wales 0-73 South Africa

To put the scale of this result into perspective, it has been 58 years since Wales were last nilled in Cardiff.

That was back in 1967 in a 3-0 loss to Ireland when it was a VERY different game.

  10. 'We respected Wales as much as we could' - Kolisipublished at 17:28 GMT 29 November 2025

    FT: Wales 0-73 South Africa

South Africa captain Siya Kolisi speaking to S4C: "It was good, we’re proud of today and the whole tour.

"We’ve been build depth into the squad. There’s been disciplined, segmented and we take everything that’s infront of us.

"We respected Wales as much as we could, and we needed to go out and play our game.

"We love the Welsh boys, I love Jac Morgan and Dewi Lake. We need Wales and we went through what Wales went through before 2018.

"The fans need to continue to show up, and people asking why we’re playing today. And it’s simple, for experience."

  11. 'We're very disappointed' - Hardypublished at 17:25 GMT 29 November 2025

    FT: Wales 0-73 South Africa

Wales scrum-half Kieran Hardy speaking to S4C: "The boys are disappointed and we thought we started well, but ultimately the South Africans showed their class.

"We just didn’t stay in the game, every opportunity we didn’t take.

"That was a tough game. There’s a lot of us that haven’t played and we’re very disappointed with that."

  12. Player of the Match: Andre Esterhuizen (South Africa)published at 17:20 GMT 29 November 2025

    FT: Wales 0-73 South Africa

It comes to something when a player scores 28 points as Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu did today and still he doesn't get man of the match.

But centre Andre Esterhuizen was immense today.

He scored a try but created so many more with his sheer brute force and power. He embodies South African rugby - a centre who could probably play in the Welsh pack.

Opposite number Joe Hawkins will be seeing him in his nightmares.

It's the most points they've ever conceded, the biggest scoring margin and we're just looking at the history books for when the last time Wales were nilled in Cardiff.

    Unprecedented.

That’s a red card. He can't get away with that.

I’ve not seen a eye gouging like that in a long time.

  18. Red card: Eben Etzebeth (South Africa)published at 78 mins

    Wales 0-73 South Africa

There really was no question over that. It was a clear gouging and I really don't know what Etzebeth was thinking... or what he could be saying to the referee as he leaves the pitch.

Eben Etzebeth could be in real trouble here. We've just seen a replay that shows him putting his thumb right in Alex Mann's eye.

No wonder the Wales forward was so incensed.

Hello... bit of fistycuffs going on here between Eben Etzebeth and Alex Mann.

Referee stops play but they're still going at it, even with players all around trying to prize them appart.

Great that Wales are still showing some fight... but the scoreboard suggests it's pointless.
