So that's it from the 2026 Six Nations for both Wales and Italy and it's a bit of a funny one.

Italy finish ahead of Wales in the table but you would not know that from the way both teams left the Principality Stadium.

The Azzurri were hoping to win three games in a Six Nations campaign for the first time.

But they left it far too late with three tries in the second half that meant they even missed out on a bonus.

Wales finish bottom of the pile for a third successive year yet there is optimism abound in Cardiff after finally posting their first win in that period.

Two tries from man of the match Aaron Wainwright put them on track for a staggering 31-0 lead before that Italy fightback.

They have steadily progressed through the tournament and will probably hope they could start the championship now.

But there are certainly signs of something for Steve Tandy to build on.

Stay with BBC Sport as we bring you everything from the Six Nations decider in Paris.

    From Cardiff, it's hwyl fawr.

So that's two games down and one to go on the final day of the 2026 Six Nations.

And there's a small matter of the title to be decided.

Ireland lead the table after beating Scotland but France will take the trophy with victory over England in Le Crunch in Paris.

I think the first five minutes was really frustrating when Wales got their try and they struggled mentally after that.

It's a funny way to finish a Six Nations, two wins is not bad for Italy.

But I think this Italian team has so many ambitions, to continue to grow and one day to win the Six Nations.

Wales head coach Steve Tandy has been asked if it is hard to block out the noise of the Welsh rugby politics.

He told BBC Sport: "There's a lot going on but we want to create an environment where people want to come, enjoy working and representing their nation.

"The players have been amazing in the way they have done that. The biggest thing we can do is perform in our stadium."

What has been the biggest areas of improvement?

Tandy replied: "Discipline has been massive but also confidence. The players have seen that when we deliver our game we can be very competitive, but we have a long way to go to be consistent.

"It's my first Six Nations and it's an incredible tournament. We wanted more wins but it's been about getting better. Look at the growth from the first game against England to today.

"We'll definitely have a few beers tonight. It's professional sport but you have to enjoy the moments before coming back to get better."

I don't think any of us predicated so many incorrect scores in a Six Nations ever!

It's been the hardest one to predict but there's been so many surprises and that's why it's the greatest annual tournament.

Dave Reddin on BBC One- "Delighted for Steve, he's put in a huge effort and the connection has been the foundation.

"England was a tough day, but every match has got better.

"I think it's all about building week on week, the defence and set play. There's a huge amount of growth in this team.

"One win doesn't resolve all the issues, but it's a start.

"The Welsh public should be incredibly optimistic on what Steve Tandy is building. He's an incredibly talented and passionate head coach and today showed what he's about.

"I've been in this role for 6 months or so now, and I was fortunate enough to be involved in England success some time ago. And I've experienced the passion of this place, and since I've been in Wales it's only amplified.

"We know need to continue to build on these foundations."

Wales head coach Steve Tandy has told BBC Sport: "I'm massively proud of the players and the supporters who have stuck with the team.

"That performance has been coming. We've focused on not getting ahead of ourselves and making sure each part of our game improves.

"But the intent was there from the start from this young group.

"They're a great group to work with. They're young, desperate to learn and get better whether they win or lose. Their effort is amazing."

On Steve Tandy, Dewi Lake told BBC One: "He's really brought the group together with how much care for each other and trust each other.

"Those bonds don't come overnight. It takes time and when go through tough times on the field, the care he shows to us and what we do, not just him but the coaching staff...this group has become so much tighter."

Wales captain Dewi Lake told BBC One: "The win means everything to the players. It's what we've been building to and working for.

"The last few weeks our performances have built and we've grown as a group from Scotland, to Ireland and now to this week when we gave our best performance.

"We've always got belief in ourselves and in what we can do on the field.

"The important thing today was to back up the first half into the second, which we didn't do against Scotland. Today we stayed in the game, stayed in the moment and fought for everything and the result went our way"

He added: "There's a lot of noise and stuff going on behind scenes in Welsh rugby but once we're in camp, all your focus goes on playing for Wales and that's easy to do.

"Everything you do is for days like today and moments like this in the jersey in front of all these fans who have supported us through tough times."

Louis Rees-Zammit speaking on BBC One - "It's unbelievable to play with this team, you felt the crowd against Scotland.

"To do it today, was so special.

"We've trusted each other, trusted the system and trusted the coaches.

"When a new coaching system comes in, it's difficult to get onboard over night, it takes time but credit to the players. We've brought into every training session, every game, the Scotland and Ireland games, and now today.

"We've got an amazing culture now and everyone is full of confidence.

"We were quite confident going into the England game. But when you have two yellow cards in the first 20 minutes it's pretty hard to come back from.

"It was difficult to show what we wanted to show, same with the French game.

"That's when we sorted our defence game and came together.

"I thought the first 20 minutes against Scotland was when it clicked. We've got an exciting back line as well as the forwards have been incredible the past three games.

"There's so much positivity in this camp and there's more to come."

Italian Captain Michele Lamaro, speaking to BBC One - "First of all, credit to Wales they played an amazing game in front of an amazing crowds. We know how much it meant to them to play in this stadium.

"We knew we had a good opportunity, we knew if we played our game and in some stages we were inconsistent and gave away too many penalties, especially in their 22.

"We lost a lot of energy to try and max the energy Wales were giving, in the end it was too late.

(In reference to the England win fatigue) "No 100% not, we've had a very long six nations, but that's the challenge that comes with playing in this tournament.

"We prepared well and we had the believe we could win.

"The first half cost us, but all credit to Wales."

Aaron Wainwright speaking to BBC One - "It’s been incredible, the past two games we’ve played really well but hadn't got over the line.

"The way we started today and hung in there shows how far we’ve come as a group.

"When you look at our opening halves we put a lot of pressure and reflected on the score board. Bit disappointed with how it ended, but how the stadium was today made it very special.

"There's a lot of young guys in the squad and this will be special for them.

"Disciple has been our downfall, looking back at the England and France game it cost us.

"We’ll celebrate as a team tonight, not ideal to finish bottom of the table. But everyone can see we’re growing and moving in the right direction."
