Seren Coombs said international call-up was 'completely surreal and very unexpected'

Jersey rugby player Seren Coombs made her England Under-21s debut on Saturday during a game against Spain's senior team.
The 19-year-old second row came on from the bench and played for 25 minutes during the second half as the Red Roses ran out 29-17 winners against Las Leonas.
Coombs plays for London Irish Ladies in Women's Championship South 1 and was a late call-up for the international squad.
"It was completely surreal and very unexpected, so I didn't really have much time to prep but even being in the position to be selected was just amazing," she told BBC Radio Jersey.
"I am 100% my worst critic and I always think I play worse than I do but I didn't do anything particularly bad, which is great because I've only been in one camp previously."
Coombs was introduced to the sport through touch rugby, and then progressed into Jersey's girls' team before earning county and regional age-group call-ups for Sussex and South East England, before being picked for London Irish Ladies.
She is hopeful for more international opportunities after being part of the under-21s squad.
"Overall, I'm happy that I even got to be there and was able to showcase my skills because clearly they're looking at me and clearly they've seen something."
But as she looks to build on her international career, Coombs is still focused on making more history for Jersey RFC Women as she targets a first Siam Cup win in Guernsey.
The women's side has never managed to lift the trophy away from home at Footes Lane and Coombs' first Siam experience was a narrow defeat at the ground two years ago, with Chelsie Blondel's last-minute penalty securing Guernsey a 17-15 win.
"It was an awful loss for me because you pour your heart out on the field in these games," Coombs' added.
"I think a win there would just be payback that we've been waiting for [for] two years."
